Bertha and Alfred lived in Chicago, Illinois around 1905, but later returned to live in Humberstone, Ontario. Bertha and her family did not have an easy life. According to family lore Alfred was a bit of a rogue (but a likable one). It is said that Bertha continually asked her husband to go to church with her and the children. One day Alfred finally agreed but first decided to make the trek into town to pick up some groceries; it wasn’t long before he found himself in the local hotel. By the time he left it had become quite foggy. As he carried the groceries home along the railroad tracks he didn’t see the train approaching from behind. Upon learning of the tragic news Bertha May gathered her little family around her and they all wept. [30] Alfred worked as a cook. Really thorough. Have worked on some of these people for years and got some valuable info. from you. Thanks so much.

  2. Edward (Ted) Smith says:

Your work is of great value to me as a direct descendant via Sam Saylor and Anna Climenhaga. Thank you very much.

I note that the birth date for one of our “cousins” in the 5th generation is incorrect. Betty Jane Saylor was born 10 Sep 1930 (not 1939).

She lives in Crystal Beach with husband Arnold b:19 Feb 1932.

    • Hi Ted. Thanks so much for the comment. I have made the changes. Any additional info you would like to pass on about this Saylor family would be appreciated.
